We have added a 2024 study by Maria Abou Taka and colleagues to our transplant evidence catalogue. Published in the International Journal of Molecular Sciences, it examines kidney preservation at 10 °C with Hemopure (HBOC-201) and sodium thiosulfate in a rat transplantation model.
Following 24 hours of preservation, the combined treatment improved early kidney function and reduced tissue injury and inflammatory markers. Long-term graft-function differences between groups were not statistically significant.
The study adds preclinical evidence on oxygen carriers in organ preservation. Human transplant outcomes and BHOC-specific performance require separate studies.
